Thousands of public cameras in Da Nang busted

Da Nang, a city in Vietnam, is facing challenges with its surveillance camera system, as only around 1,500 out of approximately 4,900 cameras installed in public places are currently operational.

During a meeting with the city People's Council, concerns were raised by the public, urging the city to inspect and repair the malfunctioning cameras. According to Nguyen Dai Dong, deputy director of the city police, out of the operational cameras, only 526 have good image quality. The major issue is the lack of funds for regular maintenance and repairs.

The police have requested city authorities to prioritize maintaining the operational cameras and repairing those in strategic locations to ensure public security. In September, the People’s Council approved a project aimed at modernizing the operation center and the public camera system for traffic safety and security, with plans for completion by 2026.

The upgraded system is expected to feature advanced capabilities such as facial and license plate recognition and automatic alerts.
