Sáng 31/3, ông Vương Đình Huệ nhận được tín nhiệm của Quốc hội khóa XIV, trở thành Chủ tịch Quốc hội, Chủ tịch Hội đồng bầu cử Quốc gia.
Sau khi thực hiện nghi lễ tuyên thệ và nhận hoa chúc mừng từ người tiền nhiệm Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, ông Vương Đình Huệ có bài phát biểu nhậm chức ngắn gọn.
Trân trọng cảm ơn sự tín nhiệm của các đại biểu Quốc hội, ông Vương Đình Huệ nói: "Đây là vinh dự vô cùng to lớn, đồng thời cũng là trách nhiệm rất nặng nề đối với cá nhân tôi".
Theo tân Chủ tịch Quốc hội, kỳ họp lần này là kỳ họp cuối cùng của Quốc hội khóa XIV, diễn ra trong bối cảnh toàn Đảng, toàn dân, toàn quân đang tích cực triển khai thực hiện Nghị quyết Đại hội Đảng toàn quốc lần thứ XIII và chuẩn bị cho cuộc bầu cử đại biểu Quốc hội khóa XV, đại biểu HĐND các cấp nhiệm kỳ 2021-2026. Vì vậy, hai nhiệm vụ đảm bảo tính liên tục trong hoạt động của Quốc hội và tổ chức thành công bầu cử trên phạm vi cả nước phải đồng thời thực hiện.

Trên cương vị Chủ tịch Hội đồng bầu cử Quốc gia, ông hứa cùng các thành viên trong Hội đồng thực hiện nghiêm túc chức năng, nhiệm vụ, quyền hạn theo luật định; tổ chức thành công cuộc bầu cử nhằm bầu ra những đại biểu tiêu biểu, xứng đáng, đại diện cho ý chí, nguyện vọng, quyền làm chủ của nhân dân trong Quốc hội và HĐND các cấp trong nhiệm kỳ mới.Đánh giá nhiệm kỳ khóa XIV sắp khép lại cùng nhiều kết quả to lớn trên cả ba phương diện: Lập pháp, giám sát tối cao và quyết định những vấn đề quan trọng của đất nước, ông Vương Đình Huệ cho rằng Quốc hội đã để lại nhiều dấu ấn và tình cảm tốt đẹp trong lòng nhân dân và cử tri cả nước.
