Lexus flips after crashing into 5 vehicles at red light in Hanoi, driver arrested

A driver in Hanoi has been criminally detained following a high-speed multi-vehicle collision that left two people injured and a trail of destruction across a major intersection. On March 27, Hanoi Police confirmed that the male driver of a Lexus is under investigation for alleged violations of road traffic regulations after his vehicle overturned during a late-night crash on March 25.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Trung Kinh and Mac Thai To streets. According to initial reports, the Lexus rear-ended a car waiting at a red light with such force that it propelled the stationary vehicle forward nearly 10 meters. The Lexus then careened through the intersection, veered into oncoming traffic, and struck three additional cars and a motorcycle before flipping onto its roof.

The aftermath of the crash covered an area of roughly 300 square meters with vehicle debris. Bystanders had to rescue the Lexus driver from his overturned vehicle, which suffered severe front-end damage and deployed its airbags. Among the two injured was a motorbike taxi driver who sustained multiple fractures and required emergency hospitalization.

Remarkably, authorities determined that none of the motorists involved—including the Lexus driver—were under the influence of alcohol or stimulants at the time of the accident. Instead, investigators have attributed the pile-up to reckless driving and a complete failure to observe traffic conditions.

The case has drawn significant attention in the capital, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding road safety and high-speed driving in urban areas. As the investigation continues, the driver remains in custody pending formal charges related to the extensive property damage and physical injuries caused by the collision.
