An ninh tại đồi Capitol - nơi làm việc của quốc hội Mỹ - đang được siết chặt khi tổng thống nước này Joe Biden dự kiến phát biểu lần đầu trước quốc hội vào ngày 28.4 (sáng 29.4, giờ Việt Nam).Theo Reuters, để đảm bảo giãn cách xã hội ngăn Covid-19, chỉ có số ít nghị sĩ, thẩm phán, quan chức và khách mời được tham gia.
Đây được coi là “sự kiện an ninh đặc biệt quốc gia” do mật vụ Mỹ phụ trách an ninh. Để đề phòng cuộc tấn công hôm 6.1, mật vụ Mỹ đã phối hợp với cơ quan hành pháp nhằm chuẩn bị cho mọi tình huống bất ngờ.
Hiện tại, Điện Capitol vẫn đang được bao bọc bởi lớp hàng rào an ninh và còn khoảng 2.250 lính Vệ binh quốc gia tại thủ đô. Vệ binh quốc gia đã đề nghị Lầu Năm Góc ủy quyền hỗ trợ cảnh sát địa phương xử lý các cuộc biểu tình trong lúc ông Biden phát biểu.
