(NBC News) – Buổi tranh luận tổng thống thứ hai giữa Tổng thống Donald Trump và đối thủ Dân chủ Joe Biden dự tính vào tuần sau chính thức bị huỷ, Uỷ ban Tranh luận Tổng thống thông báo vào thứ Sáu.
Đồng Chủ tịch CPD Frank Fahnrenkopf vào thứ Sáu cho hay, do cả hai chiến dịch đều cho biết họ có kế hoạch khác, v́ vậy tranh luận tổng thống vào ngày 15 tháng 10 tại Miami sẽ không diễn ra như dự tính.
Tuy nhiên, tranh luận vào ngày 22 tháng 10 ở Nashville, Tennessee, do kư giả Kristen Welker của NBC News điều hợp vẫn sẽ diễn ra, và cả hai chiến dịch đều đồng ư. Cuộc tranh luận này sẽ được tổ chức theo tranh luận truyền thống.
CPD gần đây thông báo sẽ tổ chức tranh luận tổng thống trực tuyến giữa ông Trump và Biden v́ lư do an toàn sức khoẻ, sau khi Tổng thống bị nhiễm COVID 19 phải nhập viện. Biden sẽ có buổi tiếp xúc cử tri – town hall với ABC News vào ngày tranh luận thứ hai 15 tháng 10.
Kể từ khi xuất viện, ông Trump khoe khoang về sự hồi phục, và tuyên bố tẩy chay tranh luận trực tuyến. Chiến dịch tranh cử của ông Trump cho rằng, không thể vin vào lư do y tế để tổ chức tranh luận trực tuyến v́ bác sĩ tư của Tổng thống đă xác nhận: ông Trump có thể quay trở lại các hoạt động b́nh thường từ thứ Bảy tuần này.
“Cũng không có lư do nào lại không có tổng cộng 3 tranh luận tổng thống như Joe Biden đă đồng t́nh ngay từ đầu. Chúng tôi đề nghị tổ chức hai tranh luận cuối cùng vào ngày 22 tháng 10 và 29 tháng 10,” phát ngôn nhân của chiến dịch vận động tái tranh cử Tim Murtaugh ghi trong tuyên bố. “Đây là thời gian cho một uỷ ban định kiến ngưng bảo vệ Biden và ngăn chặn cử tri nghe từ hai ứng cử viên tổng thống.”
Murtaugh cho biết thêm, hai chiến dịch nên chiếm đoạt uỷ ban CPD, và “tranh luận trực tiếp mà không có sự can thiệp của họ.”
