Chiều ngày 31/3, "Siêu máy bay" C130 Hercules của Không quân Mỹ đă đáp xuống sân bay Đà Nẵng. Phía Mỹ nhiệt t́nh tiếp đón đoàn báo chí Việt Nam tham quan chiếc máy bay siêu vận tải này. Lần đầu tiên tận mắt khám phá một chiếc máy bay đa năng hiện đại, nhiều người Việt Nam không khỏi trầm trồ, ngạc nhiên.

Theo đó, C 130 được sản xuất bởi Công ty Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics danh tiếng với 4 động cơ phản lực cánh quạt Allison T56-A-15; 4,591 động cơ mă lực với vận tốc 6.060 m/giờ. Nhiệm vụ của máy bay C 130 Hercules chủ yếu là chuyên chở người và hàng hóa.

Các máy bay C 130 Hercules được sử dụng trong các hoạt động của Không quân Mỹ, phục vụ Bộ Tư lệnh Cơ động Không quân, Bộ Tư lệnh Nhiệm vụ đặc biệt, Bộ Tư lệnh Không quân Chiến đấu, Lực lượng Không quân Mỹ ở châu Âu, Không quân Thái B́nh Dương, An ninh Hàng không quốc gia và Bộ Tư lệnh Dự trữ Hàng không.

Siêu máy bay vận tải C130 Hercules có nhiệm vụ chuyển hàng trên không, nó có thể thả hàng với tải trọng lên đến 19,000kg.

Với thiết kế linh hoạt, C 130 Hercules có thể thực hiện nhiều nhiệm vụ khác nhau. Phần lớn các thiết bị Hercules có thể tháo rời, cho phép máy bay trở về với vai tṛ phân phối hàng hóa khi cần. Ngoài ra, C 130 Hercules có thể được cấu h́nh lại nhanh chóng để vận chuyển các loại hàng hoá như container, xe cộ và nhân sự hay sơ tán bệnh nhân…
