Default Đừng quá 'tự sướng' về phẩm chất người Việt
Chúng ta vẫn thường được nghe trên báo đài về các phẩm chất của người Việt như: cần cù chịu khó, có tố chất thông minh và sáng tạo, thân thiện và mến khách... Nhưng sự thật có phải như thế hay chúng ta đang tự huyễn hoặc ḿnh bằng những điều hoa mỹ?

Những nhận định đánh giá này có khi là xuất phát từ chủ quan của người Việt ḿnh, khi th́ được trích dẫn từ góc nh́n của một người bạn nước ngoài nào đó. Chưa biết điều đó có thật sự đúng và khách quan hay không nhưng đôi lúc cũng làm cho tôi (và có lẽ cũng rất nhiều người khác) cảm thấy rất tự hào.
Tôi chưa có dịp đi ra nước ngoài để có thể có một sự trải nghiệm hoặc so sánh với người dân các nước khác xem thử dân ḿnh có thật sự nổi bật hơn với những đức tính nói trên hay không.
Thế nhưng với những cảm nhận những ǵ đang xảy ra trong cuộc sống, cùng với những câu chuyện từ trên báo chí và của những người quen biết từng sống ở nhiều nước trên thế giới tôi chợt giật ḿnh tự hỏi những ǵ lâu nay ḿnh vẫn tự hào có phải là một sự huyễn hoặc hay ít ra đó là những đánh giá vội vàng, khiên cưỡng.
Chúng ta hăy bắt đầu bằng tính cần cù chịu khó: nếu chịu khó lang thang trong các quán cà phê có mặt ở khắp nơi từ phố xá cho đến thôn quê ta không khỏi ngỡ ngàng bởi có vô số người đủ mọi thành phần, lứa tuổi đang rất nhàn rỗi bên những ly cà phê (hoặc nước giải khát) bất kể là nắng hay là mưa, trong giờ hành chính hay ngoài giờ, ngày nghỉ hay ngày làm việc.
Trong số đó có rất ít người đến để bàn công việc mà chủ yếu họ đến để “giết” thời gian. Mà nào đâu chỉ có quán cà phê, ở các quán nhậu, quán bi-a cũng có những cảnh tượng tương tự. Hoặc có điều kiện thâm nhập vào các công sở hẳn sẽ không khó khăn lắm để mục sở thị không khí là việc uể oải, “câu giờ” của nhiều công chức nhà nước...Lúc đó chắc hẳn mọi người sẽ tự hỏi cái chất cần cù, siêng năng, chịu khó đang thật sự ở mức nào?
C̣n với đức tính thông minh, sáng tạo th́ chúng ta phải đặt vấn đề là có bao nhiêu phát minh khoa học, bao nhiêu giải pháp công nghệ của người Việt được thế giới công nhận? Trong tất cả các lĩnh vực sản xuất công nghiệp, nông nghiệp, giao thông vận tải, y tế, giáo dục… có bao nhiêu phần trăm hàm lượng công nghệ mang nhăn hiệu made in Việt Nam?
Khó có câu trả lời thật chính xác nhưng ta có thể nói ngay rằng những thành quả đó là rất ít, thậm chí là không đáng kể. Thật đáng buồn hơn khi hiện tại chúng ta hầu như chưa làm chủ được các kỹ thuật công nghệ nguồn .
Sự thân thiện và hiếu khách của người Việt th́ sao? Thật sự th́ cũng khó đồng t́nh khi chúng ta thường xuyên nghe sự ta thán của không ít của du khách nước ngoài, các đối tác làm ăn kể cả các Việt kiều về việc các nhân viên hải quan, tiếp viên hàng không Việt Nam - những người được coi là tiếp tân của quốc gia, sao thường xuyên thiếu vắng nụ cười .
Cũng tương tự khi đến các công sở nhà nước, các bệnh viện, trên xe buưt… chúng ta cũng hiếm khi nhận được sự niềm nở ân cần. Rồi th́ nạn chặt chém du khách, nạn chèo kéo, bu bám du khách ở rất nhiều điểm du lịch nổi tiếng trên cả nước đă chứng minh điều ngược lại cho nhận định về sự thân thiện và hiếu khách.
Chưa kể một số mặt khác như kỷ luật lao động, tinh thần hợp tác làm việc theo nhóm, ư thức cộng đồng, tính cầu thị và khả năng học hỏi của người Việt ḿnh cũng không được đánh giá cao.
Nói như thế tôi không có ư định phủ nhận cũng như đánh giá thấp tất cả những đức tính tốt đẹp của tất cả người Việt ḿnh, cũng không phải là một cách nh́n tự ti. Ở đâu đó và ở những thời điểm nào đó cũng có không ít con dân đất Việt đang hăng say miệt mài lao động sáng tạo và gặt hái được những thành công đáng ghi nhận.
Cũng có biết bao nhiêu con người dù trong gian khó vẫn lạc quan yêu đời, vẫn luôn luôn nở nụ cười đem lại cho cuộc sống này những gam màu tươi mát. Chỉ có điều nó chưa thật sự trở thành sâu rộng, phổ biến đến mức nổi bật và mang tính đại diện cho cả dân tộc.
Tuy nhiên tôi vẫn tin rằng tiềm ẩn trong mỗi con người Việt Nam đều có sẵn những đức tính cần cù thông minh, sáng tạo và cũng cực kỳ thân thiện hiếu khách. Vấn đề là chúng ta phải làm sao gợi dậy được những đức tính đó.
Thế nhưng để làm sao cho những đức tính đó được bộc lộ, phát huy và lan tỏa một cách rộng khắp để trở thành như một thứ “quốc bảo” th́ có lẽ c̣n quá nhiều việc phải làm.
