Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he will not participate in a third debate against Kamala Harris after their recent debate on Tuesday. Trump made this decision public through a post on Truth Social, where he declared, "THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!" He compared the situation to a prizefighter calling for a rematch after losing, suggesting that his decision to forgo another debate was final.
Some Republicans, including Senator John Thune, had urged Trump to consider debating Harris again. Trump, however, had expressed uncertainty earlier but ultimately decided against it. This likely means that Tuesday's debate will be the only one between Harris and Trump before the November election.
Kamala Harris, on the other hand, expressed during a rally in North Carolina that she believes they "owe it to voters" to have another debate. Her campaign also revealed that they had raised a record-breaking $47 million from almost 600,000 donors in the 24 hours following the Tuesday debate.
The debate itself saw Harris control much of the conversation, with Trump reacting with agitation, leading to a performance marked by exaggerations and mistruths. This debate followed one between Trump and Joe Biden two months prior, after which Biden ended his re-election bid and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.
