Do lo sợ các đại công ty quốc tế không chịu tuân thủ những luật lệ khắt khe về kiểm soát Internet của Việt Nam, quyền bộ trưởng thông tin và truyền thông CSVN Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng gợi ý tạo ra những mạng xã hội trong nước, để có thể đe dọa cấm cửa Google và Facebook.
Truyền thông trong nước đưa tin, ông Hùng đưa ra ý tưởng này trong một buổi họp hôm Thứ Bảy 8 tháng 9 có sự tham dự của thủ tướng CSVN Nguyễn Xuân Phúc. Ông Hùng tin rằng các mạng xã hội ở Việt Nam thay thế Facebook có thể thu hút ít nhất 60 triệu người dùng, và chiếm từ 60 tới 70% thị trường quảng cáo trên mạng xã hội ở Việt Nam từ nay tới năm 2022.
Buổi họp hôm Thứ Bảy là lần đầu tiên ông Hùng, cựu tổng giám đốc tập đoàn Viettel do quân đội Cộng Sản Việt Nam điều hành, chia sẻ quan điểm về tình hình sử dụng mạng xã hội ở Việt Nam, kể từ khi trở thành người đứng đầu bộ thông tin và truyền thông hồi tháng 7. Báo mạng ********* dẫn lời ông Hùng nói rằng, nếu không có những mạng xã hội của riêng mình, thì Việt Nam không thể thương lượng được với Facebook và Google. Ông cho rằng các công ty này sẽ tiếp tục không tuân thủ pháp luật Việt Nam, trong khi nhà cầm quyền Việt Nam không dám cắt đứt quan hệ với họ.
Theo công ty quảng cáo và tiếp thị mạng xã hội We Are Social, Việt Nam có hơn 58 triệu người sử dụng Facebook, đứng thứ bảy trên thế giới. Riêng Sài Gòn đứng thứ sáu trong danh sách các thành phố có đông người sử dụng Facebook nhất.
