Cảnh sát California bắt người đàn ông mang súng săn và súng ngắn đă lên đạn gần nơi cựu tổng thống Trump tổ chức mít tinh.

Cảnh sát bang California ngày 13/10 thông báo bắt Vem Miller, 49 tuổi, khi người này đang lái ôtô tiến đến chốt kiểm soát gần cuộc mít tinh của cựu tổng thống Donald Trump ở Coachella.

Miller bị phát hiện sở hữu trái phép một khẩu súng săn và khẩu súng ngắn đă lên đạn. Nghi phạm bị bắt với cáo buộc mang súng đă nạp đạn và sử dụng hộp tiếp đạn cỡ lớn, nhưng được tại ngoại và sẽ hầu ṭa ngày 2/1/2025.

Sở Mật vụ Mỹ cho biết đă nắm thông tin về sự việc, thêm rằng cựu tổng thống Trump và những người dự mít tinh đều không gặp nguy hiểm.

Cảnh sát trưởng hạt Riverside Chad Bianco nói rằng giới chức chưa thể xác định động cơ của Miller trong sự việc. "Nếu quư vị hỏi ngay lúc này, tôi cho rằng có lẽ các sĩ quan đă ngăn được vụ ám sát thứ ba", ông nói.

Theo ông Bianco, Miller có nhiều hộ chiếu và giấy tờ tùy thân với tên khác nhau. Chiếc xe nghi phạm sử dụng cũng chưa được đăng kư.

Ông Trump hồi tháng 7 bị ám sát hụt khi tổ chức mít tinh ngoài trời ở Butler, bang Pennsylvania, và trúng đạn ở tai. Nghi phạm Ryan Routh hồi tháng trước mang theo súng trường phục kích bên ngoài sân golf ông Trump đang chơi ở Florida, nhưng bị mật vụ phát hiện và bỏ trốn trước khi tiếp cận được ông Trump.

Truyền thông Mỹ cuối tuần trước tiết lộ chiến dịch tranh cử của Donald Trump đang yêu cầu tăng cường bảo vệ ông trước bầu cử, trong đó có huy động máy bay quân sự có khả năng chống tên lửa. Tổng thống Joe Biden tuyên bố đă yêu cầu Sở Mật vụ "đáp ứng mọi thứ ông ấy cần, miễn là không đ̣i tiêm kích F-15".
