COVID-19: Over 8,600 new infections, 101 new deaths recorded

Vietnam has confirmed 8,616 new coronavirus infections in 57 cities and provinces across the country during the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in its coronavirus update on November 15.

The MoH statistics also showed an additional 101 people have died and 1,205 more patients have recovered from the disease.

Of the newly-detected infections, 3,950 cases were diagnosed in the community through random testing or test screening.

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam took the lead with 1,165 new cases, followed by An Giang with 660 cases and Binh Duong 616 cases.

Other southern localities registering between 200 – 600 new cases each include Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Tien Giang, Dong Thap, Binh Thuan, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Vinh Long.

The pandemic remains complicated in the north, with 239 new cases documented in Hanoi capital, 117 in Ha Giang, 92 in Thai Binh, 70 in Bac Ninh, 45 in Hai Duong, 38 in Bac Giang.

As of 06pm on November 15 Vietnam has confirmed 1,035,138 COVID-19 cases since the start of the first outbreak in January 2020, ranking 38th out of 223 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, 864,516 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease.

Vietnam has also recorded 101 new deaths during the past 24 hours, raising the country’s death toll to 23,183 deaths, making up 2.2% of the total number of infections.

More than 99.7 million vaccine doses have been administered nationwide, with 35.3 million people getting their second shot.
