Over the weekend, a shocking revelation surfaced about Emhoff’s past: his first marriage ended after he fathered a child with his children’s nanny. Now, sources have revealed that the atmosphere at the vice president’s residence has become extremely tense.
Emhoff confirmed on Saturday that he had an affair during his first marriage following the publication of these details by the UK’s Daily Mail. “You know what they say, ‘once a cheater always a cheater,”‘ said one high-placed source to the outlet. “Of course, Kamala is worrying, not just that he might do it again, but could he have already done it again?” Despite being aware of the situation, Harris feels “unnerved and humiliated,” according to the Daily Mail. The revelation about her husband comes just two weeks after it was confirmed that she would be the Democratic nominee for president.
“She’s trying to focus on rebranding her image, and this is the last thing she wanted right now. Emhoff said earlier this week in a statement to CNN: “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.” Reports said that he got his children’s nanny Najen Naylor, a teacher at his children’s school who also moonlighted as a nanny for his then-eight-year-old daughter Ella, pregnant.
Kerstin Emhoff said in a statement Saturday, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”

The relationship and the circumstances around it were known four years ago to Joe Biden’s vetting committee as Harris was herself going through the running mate process before being picked for the ticket, a person familiar with the conversations told CNN. The person also said that Emhoff had told Harris about the affair well before they got married. The relationship ended years before Emhoff began dating Harris.
“A close friend with direct knowledge of the affair and pregnancy told DailyMail.com that Naylor did not keep the child, while CBS has since reported that the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage,” the outlet reported. “Another friend, Stacey Brooks, who mothered twin boys around the same time as Naylor was expecting, also did not deny any of the claims – but said she would not divulge further information without Naylor’s permission.”
