Tổng thống Donald Trump đă cảnh báo tới Lănh đạo Đa số Thượng viện Mitch McConnell và các đồng minh GOP của ông vào sáng thứ Sáu: “Hăy cứng rắn hơn, nếu không bạn sẽ không c̣n Đảng Cộng ḥa nữa.”

Trump đang công khai khuyến khích các thượng nghị sĩ lật ngược kết quả của cuộc bầu cử tổng thống – được coi là nỗ lực cuối cùng sau khi thua tại ṭa án – v́ tổng thống và các đồng minh của ông đă không thể đưa ra bất kỳ bằng chứng đáng tin cậy nào về cuộc bầu cử

“Chúng tôi đă thắng rất nhiều trong cuộc Bầu cử Tổng thống. ĐẤU TRANH CHO NÓ. Đừng để họ lấy mất!” Trump tuyên bố trong ḍng tweet nhắm vào McConnell, người trong tuần này đă thừa nhận từ sàn Thượng viện rằng Tổng thống đắc cử Joe Biden đă giành chiến thắng trong cuộc bầu cử một ngày sau khi Đại cử tri đoàn quyết định xác nhận Biden là tổng thống tiếp theo.

McConnell nói trong bài phát biểu khai mạc tại Thượng viện hôm thứ Ba: “Tôi muốn chúc mừng Tổng thống đắc cử Joe Biden. Nhiều người trong chúng tôi đă hy vọng cuộc bầu cử tổng thống sẽ mang lại một kết quả khác, nhưng hệ thống chính phủ của chúng tôi có các quy tŕnh để xác định ai sẽ tuyên thệ vào ngày 20 tháng 1. Cử tri đoàn đă lên tiếng. “

Biden sau đó nói với các phóng viên rằng ông đă có một “cuộc nói chuyện tốt” với McConnell.

“Chúng tôi luôn thẳng thắn với nhau,” tổng thống sắp tới nói. “Chúng tôi đă đồng ư rằng chúng tôi sẽ gặp nhau sớm hơn.”

Văn pḥng của McConnell đă không trả lời ngay lập tức yêu cầu b́nh luận của Newsweek về ḍng tweet mới nhất của Trump nhắm vào lănh đạo GOP của Thượng viện.

Trump đă dành nhiều tuần kể từ cuộc bầu cử tweet và đăng lại những tuyên bố vô căn cứ rằng cuộc bầu cử đă được “gian lận” và tuyên bố rằng ông là người chiến thắng hợp pháp, mà không cung cấp bằng chứng.

Quốc hội sẽ họp trong một phiên họp chung vào ngày 6 tháng 1 để xác nhận kết quả bầu cử, v́ vậy Trump và các đồng minh của ông đă phát động một chiến dịch để cố gắng thuyết phục những người trung thành với GOP của ông áp đảo Cử tri đoàn và cử tri. McConnell đă kêu gọi riêng các thượng nghị sĩ tham gia vào một cuộc chiến như vậy, nhưng một số ám chỉ rằng họ có thể buộc phải bỏ phiếu công khai.
