Arrow Vietnam records more than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases over 24 hours

A total of 4,356 people have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam’s 40 cities and provinces during the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH) in its 06pm coronavirus update on October 6.

Ho Chi Minh City remains the largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam as it registered 1,960 new cases, up 469 cases compared to the previous day.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong, an industrial complex hub and a gateway to HCM City, recorded only 852 new cases, a fall of 255 cases from the previous day.

The Central Highlands province of Dak Lak topped central localities, reporting 58 cases, an increase of 50 cases against the October 5 figure.

Except for Ha Nam, other northern provinces are well controlling the COVID-19 outbreak, with several cases sporadically detected in Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Son La, and Ninh Binh.

Currently, Ha Nam is the largest coronavirus hotspot in the north, documenting 25 more cases, thus raising its tally of infections to more than 500.

As of 06.00pm on October 6, Vietnam has confirmed 822,687 coronavirus infections, ranking 43rd out of 223 countries and territories worldwide.

Of the total, as many as 818,091 cases have been recorded since the start of the fourth outbreak of COVID-19 in late April 2021.

The same day, the MoH announced that 10,003 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospital over the past 24 hours, raising the country’s cumulative total number of recoveries to more than 751,907.

Vietnam has also recorded 119 more COVID-19 deaths during the day, taking its death toll to 20,098.

About 48.1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered so far, with more than 12.2 million people getting their second dose.
