Arrow COVID-19: 5,376 positive cases, over 28,850 recoveries confirmed

Vietnam recorded 5,376 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours across 39 provinces and cities and more than 28,850 discharges, the Health Ministry reported on October 3.

Among the new cases, there were nine imported and 5,367 local infections.
Ho Chi Minh City and its neighour Binh Duong still topped the list with 2,461, and 1,283, respectively.

The capital city of Hanoi recorded 4 cases which were found in lockdown areas or linked to the COVID-19 outbreak in the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Hospital.

Following the detection of the new outbreak, the municipal Centre for Disease Control has asked relevant agencies to conduct contact tracing and strictly carry out COVID-19 prevention and control measures in a bid to slow the spread of the pandemic.

Since the pandemic resurged in the country in late April, the number of infection in the capital has crossed the 4,000 mark, including 1,608 ones found in the community.

With the latest cases, Vietnam is ranked 43rd out of 223 countries and regions in terms of total infections, although it is 155th in terms of infections per one million people.

114 deaths were confirmed over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 19,715, or 2.5% of infections.

A total of 28,859 coronavirus patients were declared free from the virus after making a full recovery, thus increasing the total number of recoveries up to 693,797.

Over 44.6 million people have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, in which 10.4 million people have been fully vaccinated so far.
