Default National infection count crosses 19,300 following detection of 267 new cases

The national infection tally has increased to 19,310 after the Health Ministry confirmed a further 267 fresh cases of COVID-19 on July 4 morning, with Ho Chi Minh City continuing to suffer the most infections at 217.

In addition, 4 imported cases from France were also recorded on the same day, raising the overall number of imported infections to 1,848.

Of the total local infections, HCM City topped the list with 217, Phu Yen (17), Hung Yen (17), Long An (15), Khanh Hoa (9), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (2), Dong Thap (2), and An Giang (1).

250 out of 267 domestic cases were detected in isolation or lockdown areas.

The majority of new cases in HCM City were detected within quarantine areas or are being contact traced for epidemiological investigation, while those in other localities are mostly F1 contacts with confirmed patients.

One day earlier Vietnam saw the highest daily COVID-19 count at 922 since the pandemic hit the nation early last year.

To date, the country has confirmed 17,462 domestic cases, including 15,892 detected in the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks that hit the country more than two months ago.

More than 3,867,000 people have received COVID-19 vaccine shots, including over 218,600 being vaccinated with full two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Nearly 17,980 people were inoculated against COVID-19 on July 3 alone.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of infections, with 714 domestic infections being registered on July 3, a record figure on a single day so far.

Since the resurgence of the virus, the southern metropolis has posted more than 5,650 cases of local transmission.

At a recent meeting with the HCM City steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control, Deputy Prime Minster Truong Hoa Binh urged the city to make all-out efforts to contain the pandemic by August with the effective implementation of a large-scale health screening and vaccination drive.
