1) Take out battery. If battery has a bulge and or if it's hot, battery is usually no good

2) If psu is hot, psu is going south on you. Replace psu

3) Plug in a good power adapter (get voltmeter and measure its voltage output ... if you have & know how to use it) w/o the battery and see if lappy will start
... A) If it start, plug in battery while lappy is still on and see if battery will recharge
... B) If it indicates battery needs replacing, then replace battery
... C) If it doesn't start, bad psu. Or if psu gets hot to the touch quickly, psu is going bad and will need replacement

4) If you verified that the psu & the battery are good, then your lappy board has a short in the recharging circuit. If it's the MOBO, then you have to decide if it's worth it to spend more money on fixing it or just get a new lappy. Certain ASUS lappy is infamously know for this problem
