Bethany and Paul didn’t think of any of this when they drove toward home in Oshawa that afternoon on Hwy. 402, after visiting an aunt in Michigan. Bethany was asleep in the passenger seat. Traffic was stopped on the highway near London for an accident,
but for some reason Paul didn’t notice and drove into the back of the transport truck at speed.
The front of the Sunfire was caved in by the impact. Paul was able to pull himself from the wreck. He was cut by the flying glass and would need 100 stitches to his face, hands, chest and neck, but he was fully conscious and able to drag Bethany from the car. The airbag had deflated immediately, but she was unconscious and would not wake until the next day.
Bethany Benson in hospital after her 2010 accident. She would never be the same active young lady again.
