Thi đấu thiếu người, Man City xuất sắc hạ gục Wolves
 

Không hề có một cơn địa chấn nào xảy ra ở Etihad, Man City đã dễ dàng đánh bại đối thủ nhỏ bé Wolves. Ngay cả khi thi đấu thiếu người và bị rút ngắn tỉ số, đội quân của Macini vẫn chứng tỏ sức mạnh vượt trội của mình với bàn thắng ở phút 90+1 qua đó ấn định chiến thắng 3-1 khá thuyết phục.

Đón tiếp Wolves trên sân nhà Etihad, Man City ra sân với đội hình gần như mạnh nhất của mình hiện tại. Dzeko và Aguero sát cánh trên hàng công City. Bộ tứ tiền vệ của Man xanh là Barry, Milner, Yaya Toure cùng nhạc trưởng David Silva. Ngay từ đầu trận, Man City đã cho thấy sự áp đảo của mình với cú dứt điểm của Nasri nhưng thủ thành Hennessey đã có pha cứu nguy xuất sắc.

Cơ hội nguy hiểm nhất đến với City ở phút thứ 16 nhưng Dzeko lại không thể đưa bóng vào lưới với cú dứt điểm cận thành trước lưới trống của Wolves.

Những phút tiếp theo, Man City tiếp tục áp đảo đội khách hoàn toàn với vô số cơ hội được tạo ra. Từ Aguero cho đến Dzeko, Silva, Nasri đều tỏ ra quá vô duyên trong những tình huống cuối cùng, hoặc sút bóng không chính xác, hoặc bất lực trước tài năng của thủ thành Hennesy.

Thi đấu trên cả tuyệt vời trong hiệp một, nhưng ngay từ đầu hiệp hai, Hennesy đã mắc sai lầm khi phát bóng trượt từ đường chuyền về của đồng đội. Ngay lập tức, Aguero băng vào tạo cơ hội cho Dzeko dễ dàng đưa bóng vào lưới trống mở tỉ số trận đấu.

Với bàn thắng khai thông thế bế tắc, lối chơi của City trở nên mạch lạc hơn và bàn thắng thứ 2 đến với họ một điều tất yếu.

Phút 66, chỉ một phút sau nỗ lực không thành của Aguero, Man City đã lần thứ 2 sút tung lưới Wolves. Sau cú dứt điểm uy lực của Nasri bị Hennessey cản phá, Kolarov đã có mặt kịp thời đệm bóng tung lưới đội khách.

Có được thế trận khá dễ dàng nhưng City bỗng gặp mất mát khá lớn khi đội trưởng Kompany phạm lỗi với Kevin-Doylce trong vòng cấm ở phút 75. Chiếc thẻ đỏ được trọng tài rút ra và đi kèm với nó là quả penalty cho Wolves.

Trên chấm 11m, Hunt dễ dàng chiến thắng Joe Hart rút ngắn tỉ số còn 1-2. Hy vọng về cuộc lội ngược dòng bùng dậy đối với Bầy sói. Nhưng trước hàng thủ vững chắc của City, Wolves với lối đá đơn điệu của mình không thể làm được gì mà trái lại, họ phải nhận bàn thua thứ 3 ở phút cuối cùng. Trong một tình huống phản công của Man City, nhận đường chuyền của Balotelli, Adam Jonhson tung cú sút hiểm hóc và không cho Hennessey một cơ hội nào để cản phá.

Trận đấu kết thúc với tỉ số 3-1 nghiêng về Man City, kết quả không khiến ai phải bất ngờ.
