New York City – President Donald Trump said Friday he would feel comfortable living in New York City under incoming Mayor Zohran Mamdani, offering unusually warm remarks about the progressive Democrat following their first Oval Office meeting. Speaking with reporters, Trump said the discussion revealed more shared priorities than he expected, particularly on issues tied to affordability and housing. “Yeah, I would. I really would. Especially after the meeting,” he said, noting that both leaders expressed interest in working collaboratively.

Trump also compared the overlap in their positions to his occasional alignment with Sen. Bernie Sanders, saying the two have “agreed on much more than people thought.” The meeting, which had drawn national attention given their contrasting political identities, centered on housing costs, public safety discussions, and long-term city planning. According to Trump, the tone was positive, with both sides signaling they were open to continued dialogue to address shared concerns.

Mamdani, a prominent figure among New York City progressives, has emphasized affordability, transit access, and housing reforms as core components of his platform.
