‘I’m Taking The Oil’: Trump Says US Troops Are Stealing Syrian Oil On His Orders, A War Crime

President Trump has renewed his threats to forcibly steal oil from Syria, a move which experts say would amount to a war crime.

Speaking to Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Friday, the president defended his decision to leave a small number of US troops in the war-torn nation after a general withdrawal in October by claiming they were only there to secure and plunder Syria’s oilfields.

“They said, ‘He left troops in Syria,'” Trump said. “You know what I did? I left troops to take the oil. I took the oil.

“The only troops I have are taking the oil,” he added. “They’re protecting the oil. I took over the oil.”

When Ingraham attempted to correct Trump by insisting the soldiers weren’t actually there to take the oil but to guard the facilities, the president cut her off.

“We’re not taking the oil, right?” Ingraham asked.

“I don’t know, maybe we should take it, but we have the oil,” he said. “Right now, the United States has the oil. We have the oil.”
