COVID-19: Vietnam records 13,321 more cases, 12,751 more recoveries

Vietnam has confirmed 13,321 more coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, raising its cumulative tally of infections to nearly 590,000, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 06.00pm coronavirus update on September 10.

Of the new infections, 8,680 cases were detected in the community through test screening or random testing, 15 tested positive upon returning to Vietnam from overseas, and the rest were documented in quarantine or lockdown areas.

Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong, the two largest coronavirus hotspots, registered 7,539 and 3,563 new cases respectively, accounting for more than four fifths of the total,

They were followed by Dong Nai 823, Long An 321, Tay Ninh 248, Tien Giang 156, Kien Giang 86, and Binh Phuoc 58, all in the south.

Elsewhere, Quang Binh and Quang Ngai overtook Khanh Hoa and Nghe An to top central localities in infection numbers, logging 48 and 45 cases, respectively.

In the northern region, Hanoi capital confirmed 29 cases, followed by Son La 3 and Hung Yen 1.

Data from the Ministry of Health show that the past 24 hours saw daily caseload rise by 907 cases compared to the previous day, with a sharp increase recorded mainly in HCM City by 1,990 cases.

As of 06.00pm on September 10, Vietnam has recorded 589,417 coronavirus cases since the start of the outbreak in January 2020, and 585,051 locally acquired infections following the resurgence of the virus more than four months ago.

Of the total, 348,147 patients have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery from the disease, including 12,751 cases announced on September 10.

The MoH has also confirmed 254 COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, with HCM City and Binh Duong reporting 195 and 41 fatalities respectively.

The September 10 figure has raised the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in Vietnam to 14,745, making up 2.5% of the total number of infections and 0.4% higher than the average death rate globally.
